Objective

· Responsible for the trouble shooting, diagnosis and root cause corrective action of electronic controls and control systems to achieve a better quality.

· Support the electronic design engineering staff with various tasks to deliver electronic solutions to cooking appliances in production.

· Provide the technical leadership and expertise in hardware / software and systems development from conceptualization through production across each appliance product line.

 

Key responsibilities

· Build, test, analyze, and troubleshoot prototype electronic circuits, parts (including electronic controls), and appliances to research and develop product features/functions.

· Must be able to diagnose and locate circuit, component, and equipment faults, followed by appropriate corrective action.

· Develop/review testing specifications for controls, components, and systems.

· Coordinates prototype control builds including ordering and tracking of incoming components.

· Perform design/development experiments that may require non-standard procedures and complex instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, programmable power supply, EFT) when required.

· Coordinate/conduct performance, design verification, validation, agency, and life and reliability testing based on written specifications.

· Record and maintain accurate test data records and write extremely detailed test reports and procedures when required within scope of work.

· Supports electronics team as needed with assignments targeted to SCR, FTQ, and other quality initiatives.

· Supports R&D Team with SPICE simulation and analysis of newly designed prototypes.

· Prepares test and validation plans. Leads execution and direction of product testing.

· Comprehend detailed engineering documentation including block diagrams, schematics, fabrication and assembly drawings, component drawings, specifications, manuals and other customer documentation, development and test procedures, Engineering Change Notices and manufacturing procedures.

· Provides support and training on new products to other departments and customers as required.

· Estimates task durations and assists with the preparation of project schedules and product cost estimate including costed BOM’s.

· Exhibits appropriate professional behavior including positive attitude, sense of urgency, independent judgment, teamwork, creative thinking and personal integrity to achieve department/corporate goals and objectives.

· Works with outside consultants, suppliers and contract manufacturers to develop and manufacture electronic components and assemblies.

· Works closely with Purchasing and Quality to investigate, qualify, select and manage electronics suppliers.

· Works closely with manufacturing to ensure the smooth transition of new designs into the production process including support past pilot run and into full manufacturing ramp up.

 


Minimum Qualification

Key functional qualifications

· Several years of proven experience in conceiving and developing embedded hardware controls/control systems and or firmware preferably in a consumer appliance product R&D environment.

· Proven understanding of electrical systems.

· Experience with power supplies, analog circuits, and flex circuits preferred.

· Design/programming experience using assembly language and C/C++ firmware a distinct plus.

· Proficiency in schematic and circuit design and layout using ORCAD or similar CAD system a distinct plus.

· Demonstrated track record in supporting all aspects of an electronics manufacturing organization to achieve required production rates.

· Demonstrated track record in managing external suppliers to achieve required levels of quality, performance and delivery of sourced components, assemblies and sub assemblies.

· Familiar with correlative standards (for example ANSI, UL, CSA, NEMA and IEC standards) especially as they relate to consumer appliance products.

· Proven track record using industry recognized new-product-design processes for electronic, mechanical and software design.

· Knowledge of best practices and design guidelines for increased noise immunity and reduced emissions.

· Demonstrated track record of designing PCBs for high volume production.

· Experience with single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer PCB design.

· Experience designing PCBs with mixed surface mount and thru-hole technologies.

· Strong knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes.

· Knowledge and experience in systems integration and the interactions between hardware and software design.

Generic qualifications

· English competency both written and oral.

· Degree at Electrical/Electronics Engineering (E/E, EET, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics with heavy EE Content, etc.)

· CQE / Six Sigma Blackbelt Certification a plus.

· Strong communications skills both written and oral.

· Ability to adapt to a very fast paced, loosely structured organization.

· Ability to work as an integral, contributing member of both domestic and international technical electronics development teams.

· Ability to organize and manage workload in order to effectively support multiple projects.
