Design is a global function with around 200 design professionals in seven locations worldwide. We are a diverse studio with a great mix of experience and emerging talent. This new role “Industrial Designer – Cross Category” is the perfect opportunity for any individual looking to build experience in the skills required to manage multiple programs of work from initial concept all the way through to final production. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of product platforms and cross category initiatives whilst representing the NA design team as you work with various stakeholders across the Electrolux organization. Our team takes a user-focused approach, acting as a strong advocate for the consumer’s needs throughout the end to end journey of the brand experience. In this role, you will gain valuable knowledge of the many dimensions involved in the development of outstanding global brands. The role is ideal for designers seeking to develop skills related to design management. We are looking for a passionate and energetic individual to lead this new initiative and help define the key responsibilities going forward.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Responsibilities

  • Able to use appropriate design skills: sketching, soft modeling, 3D CAD, rendering, animation and video, to define and communicate product concepts
  • Create effective and appropriate visual design languages by understanding the meaning and effect of these on the brand, audience, market and culture
  • Ability to analyze both market and design trends, identify opportunities and then iterate ideas through design thinking
  • Create broad differentiated and relevant scenarios/ themes/ concepts that explore potential or articulate an innovative proposition
  • Communicate ideas clearly and persuasively at an individual and group level, often using story-telling to bring a challenge or opportunity to life
  • Apply and define interface and interaction principles. Define and apply general usability principles (in partnership with other competencies e.g. Interaction Design, Product Graphics, etc.)
  • Create and manage documentation of Industrial Design specifications (2D and 3D data, check point presentation material etc.) at appropriate checkpoints

Operational Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high-quality Design output whilst understanding and balancing business requirements, brand values and design excellence
  • Define and articulate relevant insights by applying benchmarking tools
  • Able to manage multiple projects, typically for a specific brand/product line
  • Build relationships, team-ship with internal & external stakeholders
  • Meet internal and external deadlines according to project planning
  • Support relevant involvement of consumers and expert reviews
  • Project planning and model making management with external vendors
  • Able to create and lead the design specification of a product or a range of products within a category in collaboration with Design Manager as part of the multifunctional team
  • Align and co-operate with internal / external stakeholders, other design functions, development centers, purchasers, marketing, engineering, suppliers, etc. according to design strategy
  • Comfortable with collecting input from various stakeholders as required within a matrix type of reporting structure
  • Able to navigate a path forward in situations involving ambiguity or conflicting objectives.

Consumer Focus

  • Strive for best-in class design solutions to meet or exceed the needs of internal and external customers
  • Understanding of consumer segmentation and target groups
  • Create and support design quality standards in regards to appeal, usability and Fit Feel Finish from consumer perspective

Problem Solving

  • Balance the relationship between product properties, design elements, business goals, marketing directions, consumer trends, technology and environmental issues
  • Create functional product concepts that appropriately address the user-context requirements
  • Able to solve problems and support milestone management to achieve deadlines.
  • Able to quickly and roughly sketch and test concepts (“fail fast”) in order to spend more time on stronger ideas.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field eg. Industrial Design or Product Design
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in one or more specific business domains and in one or more markets and cultures
  • Recognized within their competency peer group for their expertise and talent in their field and their specific competency knowledge and capability. May have won award(s) and hold IP 
  • Willingness to travel and represent the design team in multi-functional meetings
