A Senior Electronics Systems Engineer is responsible for the organization, planning and execution of electrical controls system projects from marketing concept to production.  This process involves the translation of consumer needs into technical specifications, working directly with hardware and software engineers, estimating resources, estimating costs and development of technical specifications and test plans. 


  • Applies expert knowledge of applicable technology and industry/company standards to investigate new technologies, methods and test procedures.
  • Works within a defined development process to deliver requirements defined for electronics product development
  • Exhibits appropriate professional behavior including positive attitude, sense of urgency, independent judgment, teamwork, creative thinking and personal integrity to achieve department/corporate goals and objectives.
  • May supervise and mentor technicians or interns as required on a project or task basis.
  • Determines the benefit of product design re-use from existing products and modifies existing designs as input to new products.
  • Prepares documentation for team members and management to understand requirements for new project requests
  • Develops product technical specifications based off of a variety of requirement inputs including consumer, marketing and industrial design.
  • Prepares test and validation plans. Leads execution and direction of product testing.
  • Develops detailed engineering documentation including block diagrams, schematics, fabrication and assembly drawings, component drawings, specifications, manuals and other customer documentation, development and validation test procedures, Engineering Change Notices and manufacturing procedures.
  • Provides support and training on new products to other departments and customers as required.
  • Estimates task durations and assists with the preparation of project schedules and product cost estimate including costed BOM’s.
  • Works with outside consultants, suppliers and contract manufacturers to develop and manufacture electronic components and assemblies.
  • Works closely with Purchasing and Quality to investigate, qualify, select and manage electronics suppliers.
  • Works closely with manufacturing to ensure the smooth transition of new designs into the production process including support past pilot run and into full manufacturing ramp up.
  • Performs special projects as directed by the Department Manager.

Minimum Qualification


  • English competency both written and oral. 
  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, Masters degree a plus.
  • Minimum seven years of proven experience in conceiving and developing embedded controls and control systems preferably in a consumer appliance product R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Ability to translate non-technical user requirements into specific technical solutions.
  • Proven understanding of electrical systems.
  • Experience in designing embedded control systems algorithms.
  • Experience in low level serial communications functionality
  • Knowledge and experience in systems integration and the interactions between hardware and software design.
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral. Communications with cross-functional (non-engineering) team members is a must.
  • Skilled in technical writing.
  • Experience using UML, state diagrams, class diagrams and user interaction diagrams to create technical specifications.
  • Experienced in creation of DFMEAs for control systems.
  • Proven experience applying full life cycle “New Product Development” processes in the electronics and mechanical engineering environment.
  • Ability to work as an integral, contributing member of both domestic and international technical electronics development teams.
  • Ability to adapt to a very fast paced, loosely structured organization.
  • Ability to organize and manage workload in order to effectively support multiple projects.
  • Ability to work as an integral, contributing member of both domestic and international technical electronics development teams.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes.


  • Design/programming experience using C/C++ firmware a distinct plus.
  • Labview, Labwindows/CVI, Matlab, and/or Simulink experience a distinct plus.
  • Proficiency in schematic and circuit design and layout using ORCAD or similar CAD system a distinct plus.
  • Demonstrated track record in supporting all aspects of an electronics manufacturing organization to achieve required production rates.
  • Demonstrated track record in managing external suppliers to achieve required levels of quality, performance and delivery of sourced components, assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Familiar with ANSI, UL, CSA, NEMA and IEC standards especially as they relate to consumer appliance products.
  • Proven track record using industry recognized new-product-design processes for electronic, mechanical and software design.
  • Knowledge of best practices and design guidelines for increased noise immunity and reduced emissions.
  • Demonstrated track record of designing PCBs for high volume production.
  • Experience with single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer PCB design.
  • Experience designing PCBs with mixed surface mount and thru-hole technologies.
